Example of sizing a ducted HVAC system using Isocanale by Stiferite
From design to installation: a practical example of the components required to build a ducted air distribution system.

The installation of a ducted system using Isocanale by Stiferite requires proper design and coordinated management of the different components that make up the system.
To provide a concise overview of the elements required to create a ducted system, a small-scale example has been considered, developed for two rooms and a technical room where the indoor air-conditioning unit is assumed to be installed.
The project includes the main types of components required to design and install a ducted HVAC system using Isocanale, ensuring a correct and functional installation.
System configuration
The layout shown below consists of an air supply network and a return air network, each featuring specific components and accessories.
The supply duct, shown in red in the diagram, is connected to the air-conditioning unit using “F” profiles and the appropriate gasket, as well as an anti-vibration joint designed to limit the transmission of vibrations generated by the indoor unit to the rest of the system.
Along the duct route, the system includes connections to fire dampers, straight and curved duct sections, reducers and end caps. Branch connections to the rooms are made using collars with flexible ducts, while air distribution is completed with plenum boxes and air diffusers.
The return duct, shown in blue in the diagram, is connected to the air-conditioning unit using “F” profiles and the appropriate gasket, together with an anti-vibration joint. The network includes straight and curved ducts, reducers, branches and end caps, as well as connection systems for fire dampers. Specific fixing profiles are also provided for anchoring the return air grilles.
What components are required?
For the installation shown in the diagram, including panel offcuts, the following indicative quantities are required:
The quantities shown refer exclusively to the project example considered and may vary depending on the specific characteristics of the system.
Rational design helps optimize components
In addition to selecting the appropriate materials, the geometric configuration of the system can also contribute to optimizing the use of components.
Through rational management of the various elements, it is possible to create straight duct sections with a reducer integrated into one of the two ends. This solution reduces the number of connections required and, consequently, the quantity of certain accessories.
In the example analyzed, this approach makes it possible to eliminate 6 connections, resulting in savings of:
- 16.8 m of profiles;
- 8.4 m of concealed PVC bayonet profiles;
- 24 cover angles;
- the amount of adhesive required to anchor the profiles.
Overall, this optimization results in a reduction of approximately 16% in the accessories considered. The same configuration also makes it possible to reduce the number of hooked brackets required for ceiling anchoring of the ducts by 24 units, corresponding to a reduction of approximately 37%.
Every project requires a specific assessment
The optimization possibilities described cannot be applied as a standard solution to every system. The duct configuration and the quantity of components required must be assessed according to the specific design requirements. The main parameters to be considered include, for example, airflow rate, pressure resistance, system geometry and the characteristics of the spaces to be served.
A targeted design approach therefore makes it possible to define the most appropriate combination of panels, profiles and accessories, optimizing the quantities required without compromising system performance. The example presented demonstrates how proper planning of the air distribution network can contribute not only to the installation of the system itself, but also to more efficient management of the materials and components required for installation.
